Official Release of the Conservation Plan
The official release of the Range-wide Conservation Plan for Longleaf Pine and launch of the America's Longleaf Initiative took place Thursday, March 19, 2009, in Washington D.C. at the North American Wildlife and Natural Resources Conference. Members of Regional Working Group and other numerous invitees were on hand for the presentation by Deputy Regional Forester Ken Arney. Mr. Dave Duma, co-chair of the Southeast Regional Partnership for Planning and Sustainability (SERPPAS) also offered brief remarks. The release of the Plan is the culmination of input by more than 120 resource professionals and several years’ effort by the Regional Working Group and other longleaf partners.
A reception sponsored by several wildlife and conservation groups followed. Sponsors included The Conservation Fund, Environmental Defense Fund, Longleaf Alliance, National Wild Turkey Federation, National Wildlife Federation, The Nature Conservancy, and Southern Environmental Law Center.
